In 2005, Changchun Dacheng Group cooperated with Donghua University, took the lead in taking corn as main raw material , such as glycol, propylene glycol and butylenes glycol to fabricate industrial polyester. The item of 200,000 tons corn-EG have try to put into production in October 2007 which is of major projects supported by National Development and Reform Commission. This is the first cosmically industrialized line uses renewable biological resources instead of oil resources to product dihydric-alcohols material of industrial polyester. The characteristic of this production line is: To prepare sorbitol from corn starch, then uses the method of catalyzing hydrogen cracking to get the duality alcohol, such as such as glycol, propylene glycol and butylenes glycol. This mixed dihydric-alcohols can directly as raw materials of unsaturated polymer resin with out distillation. Therefore it has high economic value. Before 2004, the two international industrialization similar tests ended in failure. The reason is that they don’t know how to deal with the "Distillation remains" rather than have environmental problems. But this issue still exists in the Dacheng Group: if all of the 200,000 tons corn-EG put into production, then there will have more than 2 tons distillation remains. This kind of sepia viscosity liquids contains more than 40 components and the boiling point is above the 240 degrees. In order to make the item of 200,000 tons dihydric alcohols operation successfully, this project received sustentation fund from Shanghai 2006 annual support industrial projects revitalization of the Northeast.To confirm the distillation remains’ direction of the processing and application, first this research takes test to the five pretreatment methods of distillation remains. The equipment including: 1) Electrolysis with 380V, 20MHZ, 10L high frequency equipment after treating with acid and H2O2; 2) The equipment of molecule distillation about 10L; 3) Treating with ultrasonic of 59KHZ; 4) Multilevel filtrate with activated carbon; 5) 12K gauss strong magnetic field.Synthesizing the result of experiment, this research advances that in the existing dihydric alcohol production line a small amount of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol should be retained in the distillation remains. This will not only reduce the operating costs of corn dihydric-alcohol production line, but also the viscosity of distillation remains. So distillation remains contain alcohol more than 30% may be as raw materials of UPR. This proposal immediately accepted by Dacheng Group and been tested in industrial. Further more , they establish a substandard for the alcohol content of distillation remains.The main purpose of this research is that find a Polymerization process for distillation remains at the UPR by changing the time, temperature and the content of distillation remains. The structure of resin is analyzed by FTIR. The effect of distillation remains on specifications have been researched with the tests of TGA, exothermic peak, storage period, the acid value, viscosity and acid and alkali Resistance. The mechanical properties any more are discussed through the flexural strength, tensile strength, impact strength and other tests.The results showed that: 1 ) Not directly distillation remains as a mixed alcohol of UPR, only with ethylene glycol / propylene glycol as a raw material alcohol; 2) The distillation remains in the experiment can be achieved by adding the amount of 13%, however, only 3% in industrial, which is determined by a variety of factors; 3) The distillation remains at the UPR can increases the tensile strength , flexural strength, and with the increasing of the amount ,the fracture extended increase degree, flexible also is improved.To sum up, this study give the proposal of " distillation remains-alcohol content standard" to the project of 200,000 tons dihydric-alcohol. Distillation remains of the waste can be used as raw materials into the Unsaturated Resin, which solves the environmental problems. The Unsaturated Polymer Resin contain 3% distillation remains has achieved industrialization.
