Human use energy for a long time,and with energy use in the chemical process a series of environmental problems are produced, especially excessive carbon dioxide emissions caused the greenhouse effect, has attracted global attention. Wind energy is a huge hidden, inexhaustible clean energy, and as the most mature and early energy in the development of renewable energy has got a widespread concern.Vertical Axis Wind Turbine is a important kind of wind turbine, which development has been lagging behind in horizontal axis wind turbine for many years. In recent years, the vertical axis wind turbine caught more and more attention, more and more researchers and scholars began to work on the study of the aerodynamic characteristics of the vertical axis wind turbine.The main theory of the numerical simulation on the wind turbine are momentum theory, vortex theory, and solving the N-S equations.This paper is based on the vortex method and built a two dimension and three dimension numerical model, program and calculate using Fortran language and study on the two dimension and three dimension aerodynamic performance analysis and research of the vertical aixs wind turbine. Choosing the Sandia DOE-17m F type wind turbine as an example compare with the experimental data, and verifiy the feasibility of the analysis of the aerodynamic performance of the vertical axis turbine based on the vortex method. This paper made a assume that the velocity of vortex movement is the velocity when it was shed out and remain unchanged. The velocity of vortex shedding out is the combining of the free flow velocity and the component in free flow direction of the vortex induced velocity. The assume can really save computing time and computer space, but affect the accuracy of the calculation and some correction model should be added.In this paper, the main aerodynamic parameters of vertical axis wind turbine such as lift and resistance coefficient, torque and torque coefficient, power coefficient, which distribute around the rotating body, are given. The wake geometry is also given. They has important reference meanings for the analysis and research on the aerodynamic performance of vertical aixs wind turbine.
