Today’s energy advances and changes with the characteristics of diversification,clean, renewable. Smart Grid conforms to these characteristics and it not only inheritsthe advantages of traditional power system, but also can improve the level of energyuse. The development of Smart grid will not only have to rely on the enhancement ofthe traditional aspects of the generation, transmission, substation, distribution, use,scheduling of electricity, but also need the strong support of communication andinformation platform, which can put them together organically like the nerve center.Therefore, the development of the smart grid needs the support of powerfulcommunication technology.Focussing on communication technology and Smart Grid, the paper is to studythe adaptability of cellular communication network in micro-grid. First, based on theresearch and analysis of control strategy and the communication links insidemicro-grid, the paper summarizes the communication characteristics andcommunication needs of micro-grid. Second, the paper focuses on UMTS cellularcommunications network. The section will use UMTS to simulate the communicationtraffic of micro-grid in NS2where we will establish an appropriate applicationscenarios of micro-grid. Three types of simulation experiments prove that UMTS canperform well and has strong applicability in micro-grid scenario. Finally, the paperdesigns and relizes the functions of UMTS multi-cellular communications withswitching in NS2. Through simulation in micro-grid scenario, it proves thatmulti-cellular switching communications of UMTS are reliable, smooth and loadbalancing.
