Recently with the development of our economics, users have increasingly highdemand for the power quality and reliability. As a part of the power system connecteddirectly to the users, the distribution network’construction is lagging behind, and it isnecessary for the distribution automation. Distribution transformers are veryimportant devices, and its monitoring terminal TTU is an important part of thedistribution automation. Through monitoring the action of the distributiontransformers, the TTU can detect and deal with the power failure timely, and improvethe reliability of power supply.Because of the large number of distribution transformers in the distributionnetwork, it requires a lot of capital investment to complete the automatedtransformation of the entire distribution network. While our country is vast in territory, the economic condition is different. The high cost of the TTU make the distributionautomation difficult to implement. And the planned maintenance of electricalequipment in China led to the non-fault outage time too long, has been unable to meetthe needs of the development of modern power systems. In this paper, based on the understanding of the basic conditions of thedistribution system in China, designed the modular distribution transformermonitoring terminal based on ARM. The modular design makes it convenient tochoose appropriate module to install according to the actual situation, which improvethe economy and the applicability of the TTU. And in the hardware selection, thispaper gives full consideration to the need for future upgrades. When there is a needfor system upgrades, we can just install the corresponding module in the original. That can avoid duplication of investment. In addition, in order to reduce the plannedmaintenance outage time, the transformer partial discharge on-line monitoring moduleis added to the TTU, which can provide the necessary basis for the condition-basedmaintenance.
