Since the first report of the CdO film with both transparency and conductivity properties by Badeker in1907, the research on transparent conductive oxide (TCO) advanced rapidly. At present, three kinds of oxides include indium oxide, tin oxide, and zinc oxide becomes the main TCO materials. Among them, the indium tin oxide (ITO) is the mainstream commercial TCO material owing to its excellent characteristics of the low resistance, high transmittance and easy etching, and has been widely used in flat panel display, organic photovoltaics, and touch panel fields. In is a rare element that facing exhaust problem. The transparent conductive films based ZnO have virtues of low cost, and good electrical and optical properties, but the stability is not good enough. The SnO2based FTO films mainly have the problem of high cost and difficult-to-etch. The optical and electrical properties of the TCO films have been improved a lot with the rapid develop of optoelectronic devices. At the same time, the multifunctional TCO films begin to attract people’s attention.We have studied the rare-earth elements doped indium oxide and zinc oxide TCO films. The main results are as follows:(1) Erbium fluoride doped indium oxide (IEFO) transparent conductive film s were developed by electron beam deposition technique for the first time. The optical and electrical properties of IEFO were studied. The results show that the IEFO films have a resistivity of5.490×10-4Ω·cm, carrier mobility of42.35cm2/Vs, a carrier concentration of2.685×1020cm-3, work function of5.2eV, transmittance of81%in the visible light region (380nm to780nm). These properties can be compared with those of ITO. The polymer solar cells based on IEFO anode has been realized.Europium fluoride doped zinc oxide (ZEFO) transparent conductive thin film has been fabricated for the first time. ZEFO films have a resistivity of8.552×10-4Ω·cm, carrier mobility of30.84cm2/Vs, a carrier concentration of2.366x1020cm-3, work funtion of4.5eV, a visible light transmittance of77.1%. The polymer solar cells based on ZEFO anode has been realized.
