Among the high-intensity noise radiated by the construction machinery, the internal combustion engine intake noise is an important noise source. Therefore, controlling the intake noise is very important to reduce the overall noise of construction machinery. In this paper, the noise of engine intake system generation mechanism and control measures are introduced, the noise of the control procession and the common characteristics of mufflers that are often used in the intake systems also are described. Then, the noise property of the construction machinery intake system is analyzed by FEM and test.In this paper, the noise test results of a construction machinery intake system is analyzed, finite element model of the intake system is built, and the sound field and flow field of the intake system are analyzed by simulation, and get the noise transmission loss of the intake system and internal air flow flied result. According to the results, improved case should be given after simulation analysis. During improvement proposed process, a research established in the accurate determination of resonance frequencies of different kind of Helmholtz resonators is done. According to different assumptions, two kind of mathematical models are established. Then effect of resonator geometrical parameters on resonant frequency is analyzed in FEM software. By considering various effective factors, the suitable connector correction for the lumped-parameter formula used to predict the resonance frequency of this intake system is presented.Finally, with application of the obtained conclusions, an improved case is designed and analyzed by simulation. After practical testing and validation, the cabin noise is reduced, and the customer’s demand is met, also some ideas and theoretical guidance can be used as references on the control of construction machinery noise.
