Wind power, which is the new energy power generation form with the highest technology maturity and the fastest growing speed, has been one of the main use form of the current clean energy. With the constant enlargement of wind power penetration, installed capacity of the wind power increases year by year in the power system. So, to realize the controllable operation of wind farm is the development trend of safety grid-connected and economic operation of a large wind farm. Therefore, active power control problems in the grid-connected wind farm have been the urgently key problems to be solved. This paper mainly stretches the research work from aspects of the design scheme of active power control of wind farm, active power dispatch optimization method of wind farm and so on. The main work sums up as follows:(a) On the basis of analysis of power control of the doubly-fed wind power generation units, this paper summarized the related issues of active power control of wind power as the active power control requirements of grid-connected wind farm, the existing wind power generation scheduling strategy and wind power control study considering system frequency regulation.(b) According to actual requirement of the active power control system of wind farm clusters of Jiuquan wind power base and the basic demand of active power control of wind farm, this paper designed framework of active power control for wind farm level and then mainly studied active power control process when wind farm is in the output reference tracking mode.(c) To realize maximum wind energy utilization and minimum turbines cutting off, this paper proposed an optimized dispatch strategy for active power control of a wind farm with variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) generators based on classical priority list method. First, control sequences of wind turbines for active power output control were analyzed with the comprehensive consideration of forecasting information, operation state and control characteristic of turbines in a wind farm. Then, dispatch procedures to achieve the optimized dispatch target were presented considering the control sequence. At last, the feasibility of the presented method was tested by a wind power system.
