With the growing of global energy shortage and environmental crisis, wind poweris more and more concerned by people with its low cost, clean and safe, renewable andsome other advantages. As the installed wind turbines are increasing rapidly, all sorts ofgearbox faults become frequently, which bring a seriously impact on the safetyoperation of the wind turbine. So it is of great practical significance to monitor therunning state of gearbox using the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system,which is helpful to reduce the safety accidents and improve the efficiency in powergeneration.There are a lot of commercial analysis software systems for monitoring gearbox,most of them are designed with special function and lack of the location for fault source,the minority with multiple functions are usually expensive, so that a set of off-line faultdiagnosis system with multiple analysis algorithms is tried to be developed in this paper,which makes fault analysis more comprehensive and more practical.A variety of signal analysis algorithms were completed by using the software ofLabVIEW, and a set of off-line fault diagnosis system for the wind turbine gearboxwas developed based on these algorithms, the main issue of this paper includes thefollowing aspects:1. The fault mechanism and the fault features of the gearbox were investigated. Allkinds of fault mechanism and features were analyzed, and the calculation method of thefault characteristic frequency for the wind turbine gearbox was summarized, all of themare severed as the basic data of fault diagnosis.2. The algorithms for vibration signal analysis were researched and the algorithmsimulation was presented. A variety of signal analysis algorithms were completed andoptimized by using the software of LabVIEW, including time domain analysis, powerspectrum, ZOOM-FFT, envelope demodulation spectrum and envelope demodulationspectrum based on EMD and wavelet packet decomposition, and the simulation withgenerated signal was performed. 3. A set of off-line fault diagnosis system for the wind turbine gearbox wasdeveloped based on these algorithms, which contains multiple analysis modules andanalyzes vibration data qualitatively and quantitatively.4. All kinds of failure data from the vibration test platform was analyzed by faultdiagnosis system in this paper, and the effectiveness of this system was verified byanalyzing various types of fault data in several speeds.
