As automobiles have become more and more common in China and elsewherearound the world, the GPS satellite navigation device is rendered a necessity in dailylife. With the emergence of the satellite navigation device, the efficiency of landtransportation has been increased, the safety of driving ensured, and the modernizationand intelligence-cultivating of urban transportation improved. As a result, it hasattracted the attention of governments and leading enterprises and correspondingpolicies and funding have been established to help bring about a large number of vehiclenavigation device brands. Although, China, having been left behind in the research anddevelopment of vehicle navigation system, is now in a comparatively lower developingstage, the Chinese government has made hefty investments to launched the BeiDouSatellite in support of the development of satellite navigation system. Meanwhile, othercountries throughout the world are also devoted to the research and development oftheir navigation system devices, such as the GPS in US, the GLONAS in Russia, andthe Galileo Navigation System in Europe. The updating and development of navigationsystems would inevitably lead to the technology innovation of the user’s terminalequipment. Nowadays, the functions of vehicle navigation terminal device have beengreatly widened and cultivated. Not only does it offer basic functions such as pathplanning and voice navigation, but other functions are also added, such as live trafficinformation updating, voice command sending and receiving and preferential interestpoint information service. The functions and services are becoming more and morecustomer-oriented.Currently, the GPS vehicle navigation system in China is still monopolized, withthe elevated satellite navigation system, numerous software and hardware suppliers, andmature markets in unchallenged position in the near future. Thus, the aim of this thesisis to propose a complete set of technical solutions to the development of GPS vehiclenavigation system by introducing the related technology of GPS automobile-orientednavigation system and the designing and application of GPS vehicle navigation system. And I hope this thesis would be the very little contribution I could make to the development of GPS navigation system. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:1. To introduce the present situation of the application of the satellite navigationsystem and the way major satellite navigation systems are built.2. To introduce the basic functions and key technologies of the present mainstreamGPS vehicle navigation system, including the structure model and database constructionprocess of electronic map and optimal path searching algorithm, and current domesticdevelopment situation.3. To introduce the architecture design of the vehicle navigation experimentsystem, navigation experiment system and the function of each module, as well as thedesign of the electronic map and the design of the database table.4. Realizes the navigation test system through using C/C++language and VS2005development tools, realizes the function of each module, puts forward the improvedDijkstra path searching algorithm through the study of Dijkstra algorithm at the sametime, and do some contrast tests applying in this experiment system.
