Many factors can affect the running economy of steam turbine in power plant. Cold endis an important auxiliary system of steam turbine, and it plays an important role in powerplant. The normal operation of the steam turbine cold end can also determine the safety andeconomic operation of thermal power units. The steam turbine cold end is one of the biggestparts of water consumption. And it is also the root of thermal pollution by dischargecirculating water. Therefore, it is very important to the study of the steam turbine cold end andoptimizing its operation for the economy of power plant, saving water and environmentalprotection.The main jobs have been done for water-cooling system of steam turbine cold end insouthern China power plant as below.First, this paper introduces a method which named a universal method for calculating thepower and back-pressure characteristics of a steam turbine. It is very simple for calculationonly to know the low pressure exhaust steam area and flow rate. And it is very accurate forcalculation. Then taking N310-16.7/537/537unit as an example, the output correction iscalculated. And compared with test data, it shows that the universal method is a feasiblemethod for calculation.This paper makes the cold end system as an organic unit system and to establish themathematical model for maximum net income. We compute the profit by the way of outputcorrection universal method. We compute the outlay considering the auxiliary power, theoperation cost and thermal pollution cost of circulating water, and the investment cost of coldend system. So the mathematical model established is more practicable.This paper used the mathematical model to analyze the310MW condensing unit inpower plant, and we drew the pump operating conditions figure by knowing the unit load andinlet temperature of cooling water. According to the pump operating conditions figure, we canadjust the pump operation mode more accurately.Finally, we use LabVIEW as the exploiting stage to redact the application software forwater-cooling system of steam turbine cold end in power plant. The results have importantapplication value. We can easily reach the target value of the optimal operation of circulatingwater pumps by using the application software.
