Steam-induced vibration is one common fault of rotating machinery. With the development of parameters and capacity of the turbo generator unit, the steam-flow exciting vibration accidents greatly increased and becomed a big problem in these years, affecting the safe and stable operate. Therefore, studying how to accurately and timely diagnosis the steam-induced vibration fault, is important for the safety and reliability operation of unit, reduce economic losses and prevent a sudden disaster.Based on a large number of domestic and foreign turbine steam-induced vibration fault cases, the paper deeply study the steam-induced vibration fault of turbo generator set. Studying the fault mechanism of steam-flow exciting vibration, three kinds of vibration forces which caused steam-induced vibration included the blade tip clearance vibration, sealing fluid power and the static steam force. And then excitation forces are counted with case classification, and found that blade tip clearance vibration force of the excitation forces was the main excitation force which would cause the steam-induced vibration. The specific reasons and influencing factors of the steam-induced vibration were analyzed and summarized. Based on the statistical analysis, steam distribution factors, the cylinder or the rotor displacement, bearing elevation change and bearing type improper are the main reasons leading to the fault. Combining the fault cases, analyzed the fault typical feature from low frequency vibration frequency, low frequency vibration amplitude and operation parameters of the relationship, and steam-induced vibration and operation parameters are closely related. Through studying some steam-flow exciting vibration fault cases, the vibration features of steam-induced vibration, fault causes and measures are summarized, and fault rotors, low frequency vibration frequency, low frequency vibration amplitude and operation parameters of the relationship are analyzed between steam-induced vibration and oil whip. Based on the analysis, the discriminant process and the reason frequency sequence diagram of steam-induced vibration are devised, and provided supplementary means for fault discriminant. Then this diagnosis process and the reason frequency sequence diagram applied in practical engineering fault cases, providing technical references for the operation of the units. The paper’s research results providing technical references for the similar fault.
