With the rapid development of China’s economy, the urbanization process isgathering pace and more and more people move from the countryside into cities.This not only impulses the development of the city economy, but also brings manyserious problems such as environmental pollution, traffic congestion and landshortage. In recent years, the development and utilization of urban undergroundspace has modestly relaxed these problems. The development of the undergroundmall may save land resources considerably. And with the great increase of subwaytunnel, the problem of traffic congestion has been relaxed effectively. Thedevelopment of the underground space shall be the main trend on urbanconstruction. And the higher the development of urbanization, the more complicatedthe distribution of underground pipelines which are lifelines of the city are. Whenunderground structures are being constructed, there will be more and moreconditions that they are close to the pipelines. For the complexity of thegeotechnical itself, we must take into account the effect and protect of theunderground pipelines when we are constructing. And aggressive construction maydestroy underground pipelines. Even cause the serious situation that there be loss oflife and property. At the same time, conservative construction will makeunnecessary waste of resources. What’s more, the progress is affected andmanpower, material and financial resources are consumed rapidly. Therefore, makesure that nearby pipelines are working properly, choose reasonable constructionmethods and optimize the construction procedures may reveal the maincontradiction and help to solve the practical problems. All in all, it has a strongpractical significance to study the influence to the nearby underground pipelines.This paper is based on Gu Xiang Street civil air defence project in Harbin. Andstudy the influence of the underground projects on nearby pipelines using numericalsimulations. We use Midas/GTS to establish finite element model and we considerthe different construction methods and changes of displacement or stress duringvarious construction conditions. Comparing with different construction methods, wechoose and study the method which has a less influence to the pipelines. What’smore, we use the method to change the pipelines or soil parameters to study the influence on deformation of underground pipelines. In the end, we summarize thecontrol standards of underground constructions on nearby pipelines and put forwardappropriate control and protection measures.
