Lead-carbon battery is a new type battery which combine super capacitor highpower with long life of lead-acid battery. Especially as an HEV (Hybrid-ElectricVehicle) battery,lead-carbon battery has its incomparable advantages. The biggestinfluent factor of cycle life under HEV working condition is irreversible sulfation ofnegative plate.Consequently,experiments carry on to screen the most suitableformula for lead-carbon negative plate by testing their cycle life and chargeacceptance under HEV working condition.This article choose a certain carbon material using in the lead-carbon batterycathode through electrochemical test methods and physical characte rization.On thebasis of this result, the formula of lead-carbon battery cathode is optimizedutilizing orthogonal design by the performance of battery.First, the cyclic voltammetry of different carbon material is tested by glassycarbon electrode. And tnen CNT-1is chosen by comparison of hydrogen evolutionpotential. Lead-carbon battery is prepared by mixing carbon material into cathode,the physical characterization of raw plate and performance of battery includinginitial capacity, internal resistance,cadmium voltage of double electrode duringdischarge process is tested.The battery which formula containing0.3%CNT-1and0.5%activiated carbon performs best.Based on the results of former experiments, orthogonal design is carried out onthe composition of negative paste.The utilization of negative active material,chargeacceptance,high-rate discharge performance,pulse cycle life and power cycle life aretested, and then the influence factor of battery performance is analyzed: the mostinfluence factor of NAM utilization is activiated carbon,the least is sodiumligninsulfonate.The most influence factor of charge acceptance is activiatedcarbon,the least is humic acid. The most influence factor of high-rate dischargeperformance is activiated carbon,the least is humic acid. The most influence factorof pulse cycle life is humic acid, the least is sodium ligninsulfonate. The mostinfluence factor of power cycle life is activiated carbon, the least is sodiumligninsulfonate.The optimized formula contains0.3%activiated carbon,7.8%sulfuric acid,0.08%sodium ligninsulfonate,0.2%humic acid,0.8%CNT-1.The performance of lead-carbon battery not only related to the type and contentof carbon,more with the carbon material dispersion effect,the content of negativeexpander and sulfuric acid.Therefore,this article study the methods of carbondispersion especially,and adjust the the content of cathode expander and sulfuric acid. Experimental results show the necessity of this adjustment.
