Carbon fiber reinforced composite material is now already widely used in aircraftstructure, due to the use of aircraft operation and maintenance process, inevitablysuffering from low energy impact with a high frequency of occurrence. Accumulatedimpact damage pose a security risk in aircraft structural integrity and load carryingcapacity. Therefore, study of the response characteristics and injury characteristics ofcomposite aircraft structural components under the impact of low-energy, and furtherresearch in the residual strength of components after impact has important significanceto damage tolerance design for aircraft; while it also will be important for safetyperformance assessment of aircraft structure. This paper simulates impact process conducted dynamic finite element based ongeneral-purpose finite element software ABAQUS. Using Hashin failure criteria andequivalent linear damage evolution to simulate the material failure in plane. By addingCOHESIVE element between composite laminate units, using secondary nominal stresscriterion to determine the damage initiation and a linear softening damage evolutionwith the BK mode based on energy to judgment delamination. Compare the mainresponse parameters of the simulation analysis with the experimental results, thesimulation analysis method is modified, and eventually the simulation and experimenthave a better compliance. In this paper, by drop hammer impact test to composite beam web, we study itslow-energy impact properties. Finally we get response parameters of impact damage, including dent depth and damage area. By testing the results, we give the relationshipbetween dent depth, damage area with the impact energy. And through the shear loadtest, we analyze the residual shear strength of the beam web, and give analysis andevaluation of damage tolerance performance of the beam web.
