With the development of the national economy, the size of the power systemgeneration is in rapid growth and the grid structure is much more complexity. Because ofthe development of electricity network, the expansion of the electricity, the growth ofrenewable energy, the power grid’s safe and economic operation have faced greatchallenges, so we introduce the energy storage systems into the generation, transmissionand power distribution links, to smooth the output of intermittent energy and loadfluctuations, cut the peak and valley, increasing the paralleling capacity of intermittentenergy, improve the power quality and security. The application of energy storage systemsis a inevitable trend of power systems in the future. And the Optimal allocation of energystorage has great theoretical and practical significance due to the high cost of energystorage now.Firstly, this paper summarizes the operating and economic characteristics of energystorage systems, and then analysis from the perspective of demand side energy storageimproving the grid static security, establish the static security assessment model based onthe load rate equalization—load rate gini coefficient and standard deviation. Through a setof programs, analysis the influence of energy storage capacity on overloading severity, network power flow equalization and the minimal economic load-shedding loss.In order to maximize the value of energy storage capacity and improve the networkpower flow distribution, this paper gives an easy and quick method of energy storagenodes’ allocation based on the power flow tracking model.Based on the storage nodes’ configuration program, analysis the grid balancecharacteristics containing energy storage, and establish a minimum storage configurationmodel based on the load rate balance from the technical aspects. At the end of this paper, analysis the influence of energy storage capacity onminimum load shedding loss, establish a optimal model of energy storage capacityconsidering the energy storage operating costs from the economic aspects.
