| Long-pulse magnetic fields with flat-top can meet the needs of some extremeexperiments, which require both high field and high stability of the magnetic field. Torealize the long-pulse magnetic field with flat-top, a pulsed power supply system driven bylead-acid batteries for the long-pulse magnet is under construction at WHMFC. This paperstudies the performances of battery bank applied in the long pulse magnet power supplysystem, and gives the development of a pulsed power supply system based on therequirement of the long-pulse magnet.Since batteries are rarely used in pulsed discharge situation, the feasibility of usinglead-acid batteries as the energy storing element of the pulsed power supply system isanalyzed. The pulsed discharge characteristics of the battery bank are studied in experiment,and the results certificates the design well. And the structure and parameters of both thecharge circuit and discharge circuit of the batteries are carefully designed to meet therequirement of the long-pulse magnet. The charge method for the battery is proposed.Based on the analysis of the main factors which influence the battery life under the actualoperational condition, effective measures are adopted to maintain the batteries. Theworking process of the pulsed power supply system is simulated and analyzed by usingMatLab-Simulink, and the simulation certificates the design well. The tests include thebatteries discharge experiments with a dummy load and a Helical magnet respectively. Theresults show that the power supply system is stable in actual operation, and it can meet theneeds of the long-pulse magnet.32T magnetic field with a width of1s has been realized bythis power supply system. |
