With the development of the digital signal processing technology and theory of thecontrol system, the adaptive technology becomes the main research direction of active noisesuppression technique. Adaptive filtering method is a kind of developed optimal filteringmethod in the nearly thirty years.It developed basis on the wiener filtering, Kalman filteringand some other linear filters. It has a stronger suitability and more optimal filteringperformance.With the wide application of electric and electronic devices in power system,powerquality problems have already become a serious problem to which both users and suppliers ofelectricity have paid close attention. In addition, the active power filter with adaptivefunction,can automatically compensate for changing track harmonics. The development ofharmonic current detection technology directly effects the development of APF technology.Based on the above two aspects,according to the adaptive noise canceling technology inthe adaptive filter theory,an improved RLS adaptive algorithm of detecting harmoniccurrents is presented in this paper. In order to achieve the purpose of rapid convergencyspeed,the new method track the changes of filter weight vector and adjust the parameters ofP(n) of the RLS algorithm. In the end, the improved RLS algorithm is simulated in theMATLAB simulation platform. Experimental results show that improved RLS adaptivealgorithm of detecting harmonic currents has good characteristics, which meets precision andreal time of harmonics test.
