Compared with plain journal bearing, pressure-dam bearings are used inmanytypes of rotating machinery because of their higher threshold speed of instability.Through best design, its stability is almost equivalent to that of tilting pad bearing.Effective loading capacity of pressure-dam journal bearing is far higher than that oftilting pad bearing, as much as that of plain journal bearing. However, few domesticresearchers have studied on pressure-dam bearing, and domestic bearing softwares don’tcontain such bearing. Therefore, this paper established and analyzed static and dynamiccharacteristics of pressure-dam bearings, and developed bearing software covering thebearing.Static theoretical analysis model has been established.Using flow balance ofcontrol volume was proposed to solving difference equation of complex bush of bearingto obtain film pressure distribution inside bearing. Considering cavitation phenomenon,analyze oil film boundary conditions. Anisotropy bearing structure has been taken intoconsideration and solved by extra load constraint and Pattern Search Method.Static characteristics of the bearing, results of numerical calculation, are in goodagreement with the experimental date of relevant reference, and the model is proved tobe accurate. The distributions of film pressure are compared between pressure-dambearing and plain journal bearing. Study influence of relief-track and step on staticcharacteristic of plain journal bearing. By comparison with different bearing structures,it is proved that pressure-dam bearing are more stable than others.Differential equations of pressure-dam bearing dynamic coefficients were deductedby perturbation method with using dynamic flow balance of control volume accountingfor journal motion. Finite Difference Method and Relaxation Iteration Method wereapplied to obtain dynamic coefficients. Compared with experimental data of relevantreference, the model was proved to be correct and accurate. Study influence ofrelief-track and step on dynamic characteristic of plain journal bearing.Developed interactive interface bearing analysis software. Developed softwaremodeling module. Considering thermal hydrodynamic lubrication, developed singlespeed analysis module and multi-speeds analysis module. Design internal data structureand data transfer inside the software,Develop other auxiliary plug-ins and relevantfeatures, displaying results graphically. In order to increase efficiency, optimize thesoftware, by taking advantage of multithreaded programming technology.
