The ground source heat pump can be used by building for heating and cooling. However, when used in severe cold area, there is a question of big mismatchbetween heat absorption and release from the ground. In this way, the soiltemperature will be reduced years by and prejudice the ground heat exchangeroperation performance. To solve this problem, extra energy can be supplied to thesoil moderately.Instead of the solar source device which is used by a large number of scholars, this paper studies on the outdoor air—water heat exchanger which stores the hot airenergy in summer into the soil to keep the ground soil energy balance. This paper studies the soil-air coupled heat pump, the main work are asfollows:(1) This paper selected Jilin Provincial Library in Changchun as thebenchmark building, and used TRNSYS software to model the building and makehourly calculation of annual cooling and heating load.(2) According to the simulated result, technical code and the real situation, selections of every part of the ground source heat pump system and the energycompensation system were made.(3) The study hourly simulated the whole heat pump system all year roundand discussed the results of soil temperature field, the inlet and outlet temperatureof the ground heat exchangers, and energy consumption of each part of the heatpump system.(4) The system was compared with conventional ground source heat pumpsystem in operation performance and energy consumption in order to prove that itwas feasible in severe cold area. This paper recommends the soil—air composite heat pump system in coldregions, and studis the system operation characteristics and economical efficienciesby numeric simulation test based on a practical engineering project—JilinProvincial Library, which provides reference about this system used in the area. This paper’s topic is a part of the project ’Research on Key Technologies andEngineering Demonstration for Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction of the Heating System in Severe Cold Area’, which is the national ’12th Five-Year Plan’ tosupport science and technology project (No.2011BAJ05B04).
