Large-scale thermal power plant is a very important component of lifeline project.To adapt to the requirements of industrial technology, main building is often constructedas reinforced concrete frame-bent structure, and the mass and stiffness distribution areextremely non-uniform. In recent studies, the roof system of turbine hall in large-scalethermal power plant is often simulated by approximate rigid beam model, and other roofcomponents are ignored. Wenchuan earthquake again revealed that the destructionfrequency of roof systems was very high. In this research, seismic behavior of the R.Cframe-bent main building with general roof systems and failure mode of roof systemsare explored. The purpose of this paper is to enhance the understanding of seismicperformance of main building and reduce its damage under rare earthquake.Firstly, the integral finite element models of the R.C frame-bent main building areestablished based on ANSYS, which include three kinds of general roof systems asspace grid, trapezoid steel roof truss and the R.C mansard roof truss. The dynamicproperties of the R.C frame-bent main building with general roof systems are discussedby modal analysis, and the approximate rigid beam model is as a reference.Secondly, according to elastic and elastic-plastic time-history analysis, globaldeformation, internal forces and the collaborative performance of the R.C frame-bentmain buildings with three kinds of general roof systems are compared with approximaterigid beam model. Besides, the stress level and the overall deformation of three kinds ofroof systems of turbine hall are caculated by considering the lower support structures.Finally, in order to reveal the response characteristics of main building underWenchuan earthquake, global deformation, internal forces and elastic-plasticdevelopment sequence of main building subjected to different earthquakes are analyzed.Furthermore, the R.C frame-bent main building with space grid roof system inputsearthquake record in jiangyou seismostation of Wenchuan earthquake. In order to seekreasons for the earthquake damage of main building under Wenchuan earthquake, globaldeformation, internal forces, the collaborative performance, failure mode of roofsystems and elastic-plastic development sequence of the R.C frame-bent main buildingare investigated.
