With the rapid development of China’s economy, the construction technology of highwayindustry is becoming more and more mature. From initial stage of focusing on theconstruction quality, the highway industry has been developed to the stage ofcomprehensively considering the construction quality, project safety and environmentalprotection.Based on this, we proposed a new style porous asphalt named the ESM(environmentalfriendly and safety mixture). This mixture can guaranteed the performance of pavement,meanwhile providing better skid resistance, lower noisy and lower emissions in construction.On the basis of summarizing the predecessors, combining the principle of the fractal theoryand digital image processing technology, transferring the image gray level, balancing unevenbackground lights and eliminating noise, the fractal dimension has been calculated bysoftware to characterize pavement anti-sliding performance. Meanwhile, Combined with thetraditional laboratory test, the ESM has been compared with others mixture by fractaldimension, which also compared with different nominal maximum size and differentgradation, analyzing different influencing factors of mixture. The results show that in thesouthern rainy regions, ESM has better resistance of skid. The paper also try to use digitalimage technology and the common rut test to study on the long-term skid performance ofasphalt mixture, the results show that because of the large size,the ESM can maintain its skidperformance in long-term load. Finally, the ESM test pavement has been constructed inBa’nan highway of Sichuan, for detecting the construction technology of ESM and realperformance, confirming the benefits of ESM and its popularization value.
