High temperature superconducting (HTS) cable has become the future direction inthe field of electricity transport, because of the small size, high capacity, low losses. Singleflow channel (SFC) cable uses the copper former instead of the center flow channel, because of the high thermal resistant material used as the electric insulation and thethermal contact resistance which is very detrimental to the heat exchanger, but in anotherway the cupper former will bypass the fault current in fault condition. The discrete heat-conduction of the HTS cable was been formulated by using thefinite difference method and virtual node method, and was coupled with the circuitequation of the cable. A numerical method was used to calculate the current andtemperature distribution of the cable in steady state and transient state. The numericalmethod was applied to analysis a1m,3kA SFC HTS cable with single flow channel innormal and abnormal condition and study the transient response process in the quenchcondition. In addition, the Matlab programme to call Ansys which used file outside toexchange data, was written to achieve Matlab-Ansys joint simulation. Although thetemperature of the SFC cable is higher than the double flow channel (DFC) cable, thecopper former bypass the fault current in fault condition reduce the heating value ofconducting layers. The calorimetric method experimental program has been designed, which measuresthe linear loss of liquid nitrogen and the ac loss of the cable. Finally the data processingmethods are given.
