The flow around an underwater vehicle is classical problem in CFD fields.Self-propulsion test of submarine is the key technique of prediction and evaluation aboutits performance. So using the effective means to forecast the resistance of submarine, location of self-propulsion and analysis of its hydrodynamic characteristics has become afocus with difficulty for Navy’s research. This paper mainly studies the three dimensionviscous flow over Non-BOR submarine with propeller INSEANE1619.Three-dimensional numerical simulations were conducted to observe the flowpatterns and to measure the thrust and torque coefficient of propeller. Furthermore, basedon the analysis of the flow characteristics of SUBOFF bare hull and appended SUBOFFwith highly-skewed propeller INSEANE1619, the research of this system underself-propulsion condition is put forward. Propeller thrust and submarine body resistanceare both the function of propeller rotating rate while the inflow velocity is fixed.Consequently, through altering the propeller rotating rate, self-propulsion point can belocated under a certain inflow velocity. The simulation result with RANS equations andRNG k-ε two-equation turbulence model presents the verification the feasibility of thisaccess of understanding the powering performance of submarine with7-bladedhighly-skewed propeller. Based on the above mentioned work, the author adopts thisnumerical implementation method to simulate the powering performance of Non-BORsubmarine with propeller INSEANE1619. The result not only provided people with theaccess of understanding the flow the flow pattern of full appendage Non-BOR submarinewith propeller INSEANE1619, but also was made to determine the methods which couldbe adopted to improve the performance of the propeller. Furthermore, the results of theanalysis can be used in the design of low noise and high efficiency propeller.
