With improvement of manufacturing sector, the worm drives are become widely used, atpresent the main methods of measuring the capacity and transmission efficiency of worm drivesdepends on the physical object that costs too much. In order to reduce cost, a new method mustbe found which do not need the physical object to research the performance of the worm gearpair. The study found that the micro-engagement quality also reflect on the basic value of thecontact stress and the minimum film thickness on the tooth surface, while the basic value of thecontact stress and the minimum film thickness relate to the total length of the instantaneouscontact line, the induced normal curvature of the instantaneous contact line direction and the slipangle. In this article the engagement performance of the normal straight profile worm has beenresearched by establishing a complete mathematical model, include deriving the formula ofinstantaneous contact line, induced normal curvature and sliding angle. And substituted into thespecific parameters to draw the distribution of the instantaneous contact line, to calculate thevalue of the normal curvature and the slip angle, in order to indirectly reflect the worm gear pairmeshing performance, then find out their impact factors in order to select the appropriate designparameters to improve the engagement of the normal worm straight profile performance. Finally, the results analyzed, the carrying capacity and lubrication at the entrance part worsethan other parts, but the distribution of its contact line express better than others, and themeshing performance may be better by increasing its slip angle.
