Li-B alloy has an excellent electrochemistry performance as a promising anode of thermal batteries. However, the voltage and capacity of Li-B alloy was unstable in some special situation when Li-B alloys applied in thermal batteries. Discharge characteristic of Li-B anode in molten salt battery with system Li-B alloy/CoS2have been studied, microstructure of cell section has been observed in this article. The main results were summarized as follows:Discharge characteristics were known through changing discharge conditions and lithium content in the single cell tests. It shows that, to different content of Li samples, the discharge voltage will decrease when the test temperature is high. A lower current density and higher discharge temperature can lead to the decrease of battery capacity. Magnesium can improve the thermal stability and anti-nitride ability of Li-B alloys, but also can make the final voltage decline and decrease the battery effective capacity. The microstructure Li-B alloys single cell shows obviously that thickness of anode was reduced, some holes were produced since the lithium was consumed. The section of electrolyte and cathode show some layers. It shows that the effect of electrolyte filling to the holes has a obvious influence to the voltage and capacity by changing the electrolyte and separator. The morphology of separator can affect the flow of electrolyte. Increase the electrolyte thickness can obviously improve the battery capacity. Batteries load test approved that lithium will be dissolved in electrolyte. The capacity loss model when Li-B alloys discharged was established, and it can explain related phenomenon in discharge process.
