With the expansion of industrial production scale, production environment tends to be diversified. Temperature measurement for some process equipments, such as industrial furnace and rotary kiln, has some difficulties. It has complex monitoring environment and long transmission distance. The original temperature measuring method can’t meet the requirements very well.Thermoelectric power generation technology and wireless sensor network technology were combined in this paper to design a kind of self-powered industrial wireless temperature sensor. This temperature measurement system can get rid of the shackles of traditional wiring systems in industrial field environments. It is very flexible, and has broad application prospect. The main work is as follows.(1) Thermoelectric model, series connection model, and parallel connection model of thermoelectric generator were established on the basis of research on thermoelectric theory and application. The mathematical expressions about current and output power of these models were obtained.(2) The experiment platform about thermoelectric generator was set up. The Seebeck coefficient and the output characteristics of thermoelectric module, as well as the output characteristics of thermoelectric modules in series and parallel connection has been studied by experiment. The experimental results show that series connection model and parallel connection model can get more output power than a single thermoelectric generator model while matching loads.(3) The wireless temperature measurement system based on Zigbee was designed. Thermocouple, MSP430series MCU, and CC2520were chosen as the temperature measuring element, micro controller, and radio frequency chip respectively. The application software about this system was written.(4) The scheme of wireless temperature measurement system based on thermoelectric generation was put forward. The power model of thermoelectric generation was designed and machined. The prototype of wireless temperature sensor was made and its test about communication distance was done.(5) The on-line test about thermoelectric generation power system and wireless temperature sensor prototype was done. The results show that both of them can work properly, and the software designed by VB can realize the real-time monitoring of temperature successfully.
