With the development of the society and the living quality of human, the tourism and its relevant industries are prospering, making hotels become much more popular in people’s daily life. As the design of star-rated hotels in China is thriving increasingly, people have a new understanding of the function of hotels’space. In the interior decoration of modern hotels, the material requirement is not the only pursuit any more, but the spiritual demand has become the target of designers. Owing to the abuse of so-called modernism, people have an increasingly clear understanding that national uniqueness leads to the path of global acceptance. Therefore, the blindly imitate cannot be the way out, and exploring the design of our own is rather important during the age which Chinese features have been popular around the world. The new generation of Chinese designers who are gradually mature have found a new Chinese style. While the modern decorative materials are inseparable from the new Chinese style, a branch in the interior design. They are the necessary media to make the design in the mind to become three-dimensional. And the modern decorative materials refer to the covering materials using at the interior walls, ceilings, cylinders, ground and so on after finishing the main work of building structure. Strictly speaking, they are the decorative materials of modern building. Their functions are to insulate heat, noise, fire, and moisture so as to protect the structure of buildings, making them more comfortable and expanding their service life. What’s more, as the essential part of modern building, they also beautify the interior of buildings, and weaken the cold feeling of reinforced concrete. Good decorative materials should be safe, functional, artistic, lasting, economic, meanwhile, energy-conserving and environment-protective. The performance and quality of modern decorative materials decide the level of construction, style of structure and function of buildings.In the interior design of modern hotels, it is worthwhile to explore how to combine the modern decorative materials with the traditional classic elements in an effective way and use it perfectly. It will be helpful to our later practice.This thesis starts from the study of modern decorative materials, makes a sound generalization and innovative application of many kinds of materials such as wood, stone, pig iron and so on, uses the new Chinese style in hotel design as the breakthrough point, and studies the application of modern decorative materials in the design of new Chinese style. The meeting point and the specific application in the hotel design of new Chinese style are discussed during the study, and then the potential performance and development of modern decorative materials in interior design of new Chinese style will be concluded in a natural way. First and foremost, during the summary of main research background, the object and method of study are analyzed, establishing the premise of exposition. The importance of decorative materials in modern design is expressed by revealing the application of modern decorative materials and the tendency of the design in modern star hotels. And then, the meeting point between modern decorative materials and the design of hotels with new Chinese style is found by the analysis of the actual case, Hiyou International Hotel in Fanchang. At last, the conclusion and self-assessment will be made on the basis of the whole content. Even though the subsequent development of modern decorative materials in the design of hotels with new Chinese style is not explored, it is also worthwhile to study the question.
