Product line engineering increases the productivity, reduce the production cost, deduce th e time to market. The main topic of product line engineering is structured and managed artefa cts reuse. Product line commonality and variability analysis are used for identifying the reusea ble artefacts of the product line. However, reuse poses chanllenges on product line functional safety, existing safety standard only considers a specific function of a single product, which d oes not fit for the whole product line. We propose the method for applying the software produ ct line model in product line functional safety analysis. The software product line model descr ibes the product line commonality and variability, which provides the base for product line fu nctional safety analysis.In this report, we first investigate different product line modeling techqniues, and then se lect the ones that can be implemented for further study. We choose the wheel loader product a s the target for applying feature-oriented modeling and UML-based modeling. In the end, we propose the criteria for evaluating the product line modeling techqniues in domain analysis.As to the product line functional safety analysis, we first investigate different safety anal ysis techqniques, and then modify the single system fault tree for the purpose of product line s afety analysis. We combine the product line model with the product line fault tree, and propos e the criteria for evaluating the product line modeling techqniues in safety analysis.The PLUS process is used for designing the embedded real-time software product line, w hereas the information included in the model is used for product line functional safety analysi s. In the end, we validate the PLUS process and propose the improvement to PLUS model, wh ich makes it more suitable for product line safety analysis.
