As an important part in urban lifeline engineering, the water supply pipe network system is essential in our daily life and working activity. When the extreme natural disaster such as earthquake happens, especially after the earthquake because the ground lateral displacement of soil liquefaction etc. generated will cause varying degrees of damage to the water supply network system, and the people’s life in the disaster area will be seriously affected after the earthquake. And in recent years, many cities were suffered the risk of the earthquake in China, the disaster has brought the serious casualties and huge property losses, and we realize the importance of water supply pipe network system. So it is necessary to research the seismic performance of urban water supply pipeline.Based on the analysis of the research status at home and abroad, and combined with the progress of the previous studies. Several kinds of water supply pipe of flexible joint were studied by the test equipment which was developed independently. Experiment with the bending resistance and tensile property, to simulate the seismic performance of flexible joint under the large ground displacement caused by earthquake. To give a definition of the light damage and severely damage. Different pipes are analyzed in mechanical properties through the test data. Then the underground pipeline under the large ground displacement caused by earthquake is introduced combined with the experimental results. Introduced the method of damage assessment in the permanent deformation of pipe under the ground, including theory analysis method and empirical evaluation method, and the seismic performance of transverse and longitudinal deformations is studied by the example of the flexible joint of underground water supply pipeline, seismic performance under lateral deformation of the performance is significantly better than that of longitudinal deformation, The results showed that, the plastic pipe cast iron pipe seismic performance is better than the ductile, small diameter pipeline with large diameter pipe than in large ground deformation are more prone to failure, failure probability of pipeline subjected to lateral deformation to failure probability is significantly less than the longitudinal deformation, has great influence on failure probability of liquefied layer thickness, the slope of the ground other site conditions on underground pipeline. To improve the seismic safety of underground pipeline performance evaluation, and provides an important reference for the pipeline laying design, site and direction.
