With the advantages of simple in structure,easy in material,convenient inconstruction and have a good economic effect, gravity retaining wall is widely used incivil construction, water conservancy and hydropower, railway transportationengineering.It is one of the most widely used retaining structure in our country.Along with the rapid development of national infrastructure construction, theconstruction of gravity retaining wall is more common, the earth pressure calculationof gravity retaining wall and section optimization design research is of greatsignificance in guarantee retaining wall construction safety and economy.Firstly,this paper analysed the backfill under the mode of translation based on theimproved thin-layer element method and the relationship between friction angle anddisplacement variation.The distribution of earth pressure,resultant force and its actionpoint of a retaining wall under non-limit state are obtained. the optimal solution ofearth pressure was obtained by using PSO(particle swarm optimization) to search thepotential slip surface, of which the inclination angle of the segment for the thin layerelement was extracted as a valuable.Then discused the effects of the internal frictionalangle,wall displacement on the distribution of earth pressure,resultant force,actionpoint and potential slip surface.Then,analysed the limited backfill of the retaining wall near rock slope based onthe thin-layer element method, The distribution of earth pressure,resultant force andits action point of a retaining with limited backfill are obtained, and a matlab programis developed to solve the formula. Then discused the effects of b(the distance betweenwall heel and toe) and (slope angle)on resultant force of earth pressure and theposition of action point, and search out five kind of slip surface at differentgeometrical parameters. in addition, Analysed the influence of the different Angle ofinternal friction on the calculation results.Finally,with the cross section area of gravity retaining wall as objective function,retaining wall geometric parameters as design variables, and the slip resistancestability, overturn resistance stability, basal stress and structural requirements ofretaining wall as constraint conditions, established the gravity retaining wall sectionoptimization mathematical model.The constrained optimization problem changed intounconstrained optimization problem by punishing function. And the sectionoptimization mathematical model of retaining wall was solved by the introduction of artificial fish algorithm.then finished the MATLAB optimization program. Throughthe engineering examples, it is demonstrated that the optimization effect is good.
