It is a compulsory trend to develop the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) to cater forthe demands of energy-saving and environmental-friendly on traditional vehicle.Power split device (PSD) is a core component of the series-parallel HEV. Theperformance of its transmission property of PSD affects directly that of the wholevehicle and energy consuming of it. The research on traditional planetary gear trainhas been well developed, and the invention of differential coupling PSD has broughtboth chances and challenges for the development of PSD in our country. Althoughtheoretically available, it will cause unpredictable operational fluctuations and failureson parts strength to apply the traditional differential mechanism as PSD.Supported by the Chinese Natural Foundation “The Design Method and Theoryof Power Coupling Device in HEV Under Multi Physical CouplingCondition—NO.5175179”, this paper conducts the analysis on the statics anddynamics performance of PSD to improve reliability and stability of PSD.First based on the principal of PSD with planetary gear train, the rationality ofdifferential PSD is theoretically verified.Next the precise geometrical model of PSD is obtained using Catia, and themodel is made flexible using Ansys. After modeling dynamics and rigid-flexiblecoupling analysis is conducted on the model. Meanwhile, two models with two andthree planetary gears respectively are compared on the angular acceleration andengaging force. And the drive stationarity and feasibility are analyzed. Finally the model of PSD is precisely meshed under three methods in Hypermesh, before it is imported to Abaqus for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on thethermal-structure coupling problem in meshing gears. After the analysis thedistributions of contact stress on the gears under the influence of temperature areobtained and analyzed. Three kinds of stress distributions with different mesh modelare compared to research the impact of meshing methods on results. The results show the temperature rise caused by friction between meshing gears has a great effect onthe contact stress of gears. Thus, it is necessary to consider the effect of temperaturein the design of gear train.Combined theoretical analysis with simulations on statics thermal and dynamicsby numbers of softwares the dynamic properties and thermal-structure problem ofgear transmission are researched. The results of this paper may serve as theoreticalfoundation in the improvement of stability and reliability of PSD.
