Based on the study of the standard genetic algorithm, making use of its very strongscalability and independence of genetic algorithms, the chaos optimization theory is added tothe standard genetic algorithm to avoid the disadvantages of the standard genetic algorithm inthis paper, and the algorithm is used to the radiation shielding calculation, a new design isdevised, which reduces the interference of the artificial factors and improves calculationefficiency.In comparison with the optimal performance of Logistic mapping and Tent mapping, theCat mapping has some advantages of searching uniformity and being not easy to localminimum. The initial populations generated by Cat mapping can distribute in all solutionspace uniformly, and can improve global search ability of the algorithm. The shortage ofselecting operator and crossover operator are improved to standard genetic algorithm,especially for the proposal of chaotic mutation operator, the convergence rate of algorithm isimproved significantly. On account of the improvement which is advised in front, the basicsteps of chaos genetic algorithm is proposed and written with MATLAB programs. Thecalculation of the Sphere function, rosenbrock function and rastrigin function verifies that thealgorithm has good computing performance, high convergence accuracy.The mixed radiation field of neutron and gamma ray is established according to thecharacteristics of the reactor radiation field. The shielding mathematical model is built withthe five selected radiation shielding materials. Then the multi-objective optimization functionis established according to the shielding mathematical model with ALARA theory as theguiding idea. The six simulations are based on Cat mapping chaotic genetic algorithm and thestandard genetic algorithm, the comparison results show that average rate of convergence andextreme probability of Cat mapping chaotic genetic algorithm are risen by334.7%and25%respectively. Finally, the cost-benefit calculation model is used to calculate the radiationshielding optimization of medical cyclotron, and the results show that this optimizationcalculation method can improve the convergence speed and computation accuracy.
