Rock wool board is fabricated by melting, centrifugal wire, spray resins, collection, pleated, curing system using natural rocks and industrial waste as raw materials. It was widely used in building insulation and acoustic fields due to their good chemical stability, low thermal conductivity and good heat-resistance. Currently, the time of rock wool board as building insulation materials in the domestic building application is shorter, there are many theoretical and practical applications are not sound enough. In this paper, we explore the mechanical properties of building rock wool; This paper also analyzes the corrosion behavior of rock wool board in the building and the corrosion mechanism and fracture mechanism by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), infrared spectrophotometry (IR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and so on; Finally, the paper also analyzes the rockwool instances the best time in the Shanghai region thickness, and after using rockwool with economy. The results were as follows:(1) The result of rock wool fibers corroded in water, acid and alkali corrosion have given, in which the most severe was acid etching, followed by alkaline etching, and finally water, wherein the acid etching, the ratio of rock wool corroded in sulfuric acid more strong in nitric acid. Corrosion reaction is also related with the composition of rock wool, resin binder, coupling agent, concentration of solution, temperature and so on.(2) The corrosion of rock wool fiber in sulfuric acid solution was mainly due to the Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+and Fe3+on the surface of fiber be replaced by H+in the solution. The whole process can be divided into three steps, the first is a monovalent cation and divalent cation by ion exchange reaction is replaced by protons. Then, the A13+and Fe3+are replaced by protons. Last part of the isolated silicon-oxygen tetrahedron from the glass structure. The surface of rock wool appears stratification after corrosion. From outside to inside, followed by precipitation with high sediment layer, silicon-rich silicon gel layer, and then corrosion layer of ion exchange reaction, and finally the original raw fibers. Because a large residual stress remained on the surface of rock wool, so that there are all axially cracking on the surface after corrosion.(3) This paper have given the test results of tensile, compression and shear strength and deformation characteristics of building rock wool board (including external wall insulation rock wool board, flat roof insulation panels, sandwich panels and acoustic panels), the density form90kg/m3to150kg/m3. And the paper also gives the empirical relationship between them.(4) The optimal thickness of rockwool in Shanghai region was90mm-110mm, and this insulation slab be used will save a total cost of196.26yuan/m2-304.96yuan/m2, the payback period of rock wool was2.47-2.04years.
