In soft ground, large area loading not only leads to subsidence of the foundation, but also produces horizontal loads on the pile which caused by the soil lateral deformation. Furthermore, large bending moment and deformation will occur at pile and the pile structure may damage. On the other hand, surcharge loading also leads to consolidation of soil around pile, enlarges the negative friction resistance, and thereby increases the settlement of piles. Therefore, there will be uneven settlement between adjacent piles.The finite element software ABAQUS was adopted to investigate force and deformation of piles in the Beilun power station preloading project by considering the pile-soil interaction. In general, some developments are involved in this paper as below:(1) Some loading methods and different simplifications of models were compared to choose to reasonable model which can reflect the actual situation and reduce computer time.(2) On the basis of optimized model, the lateral deformation of pile, the settlement at the top of pile, the settlement of ground and the bending moment and stress of pile structure were analyzed under the incremental loading. By comparing the calculated results with measured data, good agreement was reached.(3) Based on the regularity of the bending moment on the pile, an equation of maximum bending moment was obtained to estimation for piles, which could be used to support primary design and construction.(4) The parameters loading position and the amount of loading were discussed in sensitivity analysis to study the influence on the lateral deformation of pile, the settlement at the top of pile, the settlement of ground and the bending moment and stress of pile structure.Meanwhile, the situation without piles was also compared.
