The engine is the heart of the vehicle, while the valve train plays an important role in theengine. The valve train performance affects the vehicle’s active performance and fueleconomy profoundly, which is the important indice for evaluating vehicle’s performance. When traditional valve mechanism can’t meet high standards of design requirements of thevalve train, new type continuously variable valve lift mechanism technology opens up a newapproach for improvement in the field of the valve mechanism. This paper focus on an engine valve train. The components of the new type continuouslyvariable valve lift are introduced, and the mechanical principle is researched. According to themechanical topological relationship and the engine valve train’s kinematical principle,multi-body model of the engine valve train is established by using multi-body dynamicsanalysis software ADAMS engine module. Multi-rigid-body model dynamics simulation isdone by using different control shaft angles and different camshaft speeds. The dynamicssimulation obtains the curves of the valve displacement, speed and acceleration, whichverifies the reasonableness of the valve train design from the dynamics viewpoint. Dynamicssimulation results of multi-rigid-body model are analyzed. The simulation results show thatthe mechanism in the engine can normally work and provide appropriate valve lift within thehighest camshaft speed range.
