Experiential Landscape Analysis In Hankou Marshland

Experiential Landscape co-ordinates and employs a person-centered process generating socially sustainable solutions to benefit how people relate to each other and the outdoor settings they routinely use. It integrates people, their interactions and environmental settings collectively forming a basis for change in the physical environment and in social structures. Landscape architecture planning and design based on experiential landscape could enhance the sensations of location, enrich experiences of place and generate better socially sustainable solutions.This research transforms and expands the theory of experiential landscape in order to apply it in urban parks. Besides, it analysis the activities and user behaviors which are taking place inside the park and how these two elements integrate experiential landscape approach to enhance the experience and improved design of the park, so that it can better meet the needs of users’.Marshland is one of the important tourist urban park of the surrounding residents who daily use it for leisure and tourism. The research takes Hankou marshland as an example by studying its internal activity mechanism. Residents and visitors are both considered as potential users. Through the methods of outside specialists, observation, semi-structured interview and questionnaire survey in different daytime and seasons and according to the results of observations, the writer draws an experiential landscape map of the specialist, and according to the results of users were the users’map.The research analyzes the experiential characteristics using the experiential landscape language, revealing the characteristics of marshland with a strong direction experience, lacking of centre and transition experience, different scales of areas from the experiential landscape map. The renovation of Hankou Marshland should be based on the following principles:a balanced layout and enhancing the experience of the place, strengthening relation and improving transition places, reflecting the characteristics and intensifying direction places, forming complex map with various characteristics. Besides, the writer draws the word-picture of the three areas which are Jiangtan Road area, central plaza area and riverside area. The research also selects Building plaza and tensioned membrane Square as an example to make a deeper design in order to explain the method of how to make places with more place perception experience.
