Spiral seal is widely used in daily life and industrial production. When spiral sea is used, itneed to cooperate to use with gland seal. Research the relationship between the spiral seal and glandseal have important guiding significance on engineering application. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulations of gas spiral seal with an additional gland seal have been conducted using theconcept of porous media for modeling the gland seal. And the relationship between the spiral sealand gland seal is researched. This paper has6chapters:Chapter1: The background and importance of the research subject is presented. Thestate-of-the-art researches on porous media and spiral seal are reviewed, at the same time theresearch method is also presented. Then the main research contents are summarized.Chapter2: Seal type and porous media are introduced in detail, and the related theory of spiralseal and porous media are discussed.Chapter3: Firstly, this chapter introduces the basic types of the grid, the grid generationmethod and mesh generation process, analyzes the near wall grid processing. Secondly, the spiralseal with an additional gland seal condition and the geometry size were described. Thirdly, differenttypes grids were generated according to different positions of the spiral seal, and then, by usingapproximate spiral groove processing, high quality of hexahedral grids were built, hybrid grids weregenerated on gap thickness. Finally, high quality of full grids were built.Chapter4: The basic process of CFD numerical simulation was introduced. The basic flowcontrol equations, turbulence model and porous media model were presented. The typical spiral sealwith an additional gland seal is studied by SST model, including the distribution situations ofvelocity fields and pressure fields. Numerical simulation results are analyzed in different directionof rotation and the influence of gland seal permeability on the sealing performance was analyzed.Chapter5: Different structure of spiral seal with gland seal were calculated, which to study theinfluence of permeability of gland seal with different the angle of spiral sealing, its groove depthgap thickness ratio and gap thickness. And gland seal permeability value was calculated underdifferent pressure and coaxial speed. Then the relationship between the two was studied.Chapter6: The work is summarized and the conclusion remarks are presented.
