The study of the earth and rockfill dam seepage and slope stability analysis is a very important research topic in the long-standing water project. It is widely used because of the low cost, simple structure, strong adaptability to natural conditions, good seismic performance, reliable, long life and other advantages of simple construction management. People have accumulated a great deal of experiences of analysis calculated methods and engineering and technology in the course of its development. However, the earth dam crash accidents occurred frequently and often caused severe destruction especially by the landslides and infiltration. As a result, reasonable and proper analysis of the seepage field and slope stability become the key to ensuring the safe operation of earth dam.This article reviewed the development of the theory of seepage and slope, starting from the factors which affect the stability of seepage and slope, basing on the basic theory and basic methods of analysis of seepage and slope, achieved a differential equation of seepage, the limit equilibrium method and finite element method of the dam slope analysis, established a two-dimensional numerical model of earth dam seepage and slope stability analysis.Using seep/w and slope/w module of the finite element analysis software of Geo Studio, we took DA SI GOU reservoir in Qinghai province as an typical example, and we analyzed the dam seepage field, infiltration lines and escape points in the different load combinations. We applied the results into the analysis of the dam slope and got the safe values of the dam slope stability in four different working conditions. In order to estimate the safety of the dam slope, the values were compared with the safety factor regulated by the "compacted earth dam design specifications"(SL274-2001) specifications mentioned above. We calculated that the seepage flow is0.054m3/d in normal storage level while it is0.0602m3/d in check flood level,and when the water level drops dead water seepage discharge of0.0087m3/d. And the safe values of the dam slope stability of upstream at the normal working condition, the abnormal working condition Ⅰ, Ⅱand drawdown are1.71,1.67,1.24and1.19, respectively. We found the designing scheme is reasonable after comparing with the safety factor regulated by the specifications.
