EEDI (energy efficiency design index) is an important index to measure the energy efficiency level for new vessels, they need to be verified the indicators both in the initial design and trial stage. If the vessels meet the specifications, they can be put into operation, otherwise eliminated. But this regulations do not apply to all types of vessels, for high performance vessel, the regulations make no specific requirements. However, the requirements of EEDI will be more and more stringent along with the global greenhouse effect continues to strengthen, high performance vessel will be incorporated to the standard. Therefore, the research on the EEDI of high performance vessel is a significant subject in construction and research institutes of high performance vessel.In order to cope with the EEDI restrictions on high performance ship in the future, this thesis studies the EEDI of high performance vessels, and discusses the calculation and baseline formula of EDDI based on the existing EEDI regulations. Then to take high speed yachts for example, and the energy efficiency level of these ships are studied. The measures of improving the high performance vessel energy efficiency are introduced from three aspects such as energy saving device, without ballast design and optimization of ship form, and provide a reference for high performance vessel research on energy saving and emission reduction in the future.In order to further improve the energy efficiency level of high performance vessel, this thesis proposes a multi objective optimization method for high performance of ship based on EEDI creatively, its principle is using a suitable multi-objective optimization algorithms to optimize the two important influence factors of high performance vessel EEDI, such as the speed and capacity, so as to achieve the objective of optimization. Through the research of the multi-objective optimization method and the comparison of multi-objective particle swarm optimization and multi-objective genetic algorithm, this thesis chooses more suitable multi objective genetic algorithm for EEDI optimization. Based on the toolbox of multi-objective genetic algorithm in MATLAB, with57.6 meters high speed aluminum alloy fast supply and intervention vessel as an example, and starts the multi-objective optimization of EEDI, the results of the optimum design scheme are satisfactory. The optimization results show that the application of multi-objective genetic algorithm in the early design of high performance vessel’s ship type demonstration can improve the energy efficiency level effectively.
