This paper is based on the discrete element method studying the interaction between3Dterrain and3D wheel. This software starts to expand the vehicle ground mechanics, and to usethe research and theory of the computer numerical simulation. And also, this software treatsthe simulation as a method to realize the motion process of ground stress in the model onthe wheel in3D environment. This paper aims to develop a three-dimensional wheel groundsimulation software to realize the wheels on the ground motion model at different conditions.Discrete Element Method (DEM),usually is used to compute the discrete particlemotion in a given condition. In this paper, the theory is based on the DEM for soil particles,and the solution is using the iteration for time steps. This theory’s code idea is very simple. Inthe calculation of the solution, with Newton’s second law as the basis to make the contactjudgment, the research group can get the force and force moment for each discrete at last. Inthe process of calculation, the research group usually takes the iteration for time steps, untilall the particles in the system are calculated.This paper mainly studies the process of the wheel (including rigid wheeland tire) rolling on the ground model (composed of soil particle discrete, used tosimulate a flat surface of the ground). And then the research group establishes the rigid wheelmodel, the elastic wheel and the ground model with the three-dimensional, and realizes thecontact collision for mechanics model of the different discrete units. Combined with DEMtheory and computer simulation, the research group mainly researches the interaction forcebetween the wheel and the ground. The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. The wheel ground simulation software with two-dimensional model has existedalready at home. So this paper is mainly used this theory to build a wheel ground simulationsoftware with three-dimensional. So the research group uses the three-dimensional discreteelement theory to set up the vehicle mechanical system, including establishing the model ofthe rigid wheel, the elastic wheel and the ground.2. The core content of this article is the calculation process of3D wheel simulationsoftware. It involves the calculation methods of rigid wheel motion and the elastic wheel(including the calculation of the driving wheel and the driven wheel). These two methodsmainly consists of the contact overlap between boundary and particle, neighbor search,contact force calculation, contact judgment and the motion solution between boundary andparticle. This paper also introduces the starting and braking processes, the calculation processof driving wheel and driven wheel.3. This software’s coding style and the main data structures in the program, is describingin detail. After that, this paper also introduces and gives the flow chart for the overall design, the software design and user interface design of this software. In addition, in order to improvethe performance of the wheel simulation software, the research group also makes improvingfor the file system of it.4. For the above works, the research group writes codes and does example tests for thissoftware. These tests contain the development environment, configuration descriptions andsimulation tests. Simulation tests mainly include the implementation and verificationof3D terrain model, rigid wheel and ground simulation test, the elastic wheel and theground simulation test.
