As a direct contact of with the people’s living environment, From the early "dry column type" to metropolitan modern, the form of the indoor space is experiencing a trend of diversification along with the changes of the times and technology innovations. Nowadays, with the rapidly changing the way of life, concepts such as low carbon, high efficiency, order demand have become new issues in the design of indoor space.Indoor space possesses double attributes since it is reflected through material sides and spiritual parts which enhance the comprehensive sense. The sensory integration of individual is the key to the form coordination resulted from the fact that the identification of indoor space relies on the potential performances of sports consciousness containing visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory and other physiological and psychological sense. Therefore, indoor space is crucial to human activities. From the time of Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, people are attracted by the significance of design in interior space. Numerous designers have been working on exploring a more suitable way for individuals to use indoor space design. For example,"homogeneous structure" by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe,"interval approach" by Louis Isadore Kahn and "organic space, imitation of the nature" by Wright are best examples. The form design of any material is not isolated, instead, it has come from at least two considerations or limitations since it is the mixture concern of function and from. For the interior space, the design process can be regarded as functional science, rational basis, forms of art and humane performance. Actually, design approaches are evolved from simplistic functional demand and aesthetic features to a more scientific, rational way. As Johannes Ludoricus Mathieu Lauweriks from Dusseidorf artistic school insists:the core of development of art is science.Differentiated from the traditional design method, modular design is more systematic, structural, scientific emphasizing more on the function rationality and convenience when pursuing beauty. Hence, not only low carbon and high efficiency, the modular design brings about "rationality","orderly" pursuit of form design. In fact, the construction of human space has been following the principle of geometric rules. Designer Ludwig Mies considered construction as a regular grid structure, similarly, the interior space is established as a simple and pure geometry adopting a top-down approach to make it quantification and standardization in order to fit in different production demand. Generally, putting the efficient rule of rationality into the form design of interior space is possibly the greatest contribution of the modular method to the form in the field of interior space.
