The gym industry,as one of the most potential industry in sports industry,which benefits from favorable support from national policy and the urgent need of the basic public service system construction,will obtain rapid development during the "twelfth five-year period".University Gymnasium is an important venue for college physical education、training、various contests and fitness exercise.According to 《Standard for classification of seismic fortification of building constructions》 GB50223-2008,gymnasium belongs to the key fortification buildings.Namely, the use function can not be interrupted or lifeline buildings which will be fixed as soon as possible during earthquake, and may cause heavy casualties and severe disaster consequence which needs to raise the fortification standards.This paper takes one university gymnasium in Shijingshan district for research background,this gymnasium has local large openings in floors which leads to stiffness mutation and inhomogeneous mass, and the whole structure behavior is sharply weakened, so weak story comes into being. This type of structure belongs to large-space structure in seismic design.Based on elastic theory (modal analysis method、response spectrum analysis method), the contribution for lateral stiffness of single diagonal bar in single span structure and influence of brace layout mode and type on lateral stiffness are discussed by three examples in Sap2000. Unbraced frame structure and scissors typed braced frame structure are modeled in finite element analysis software of Sap2000and Perform3D. Also,based on static nonlinear pushover method, plastic hinges are defined from the aspects of deformation criterion, force and displacement effects, strength loss by USA specification such as FEMA356and ASCE41-06. According to the ATC40and FEMA356response spectrum input format.the corresponding parameters of Chinese specifications response spectrum are determined respectively. Seismic sehavior influence of scissors typed-brace(namely the main components of the lateral force resisting) setting on the multi-story gymnasium steel structure is discussed.Hence, conclusion could be drawn by lateral stiffness, performance targets, the collapse mechanism, etc.
