Differences between reactance of quadrature axis and direct axis result in the existingof reluctance torque, whose economization can improve torque density and power density,and decrease the dosage of permanent magnet material. Study on the reluctance torque ofpermanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is significant. In addition, as the tractionmotor applies in rail transit and has extremely high performance index, the coolingstructure of motor is an important content. A complete set of cooling structure should bedesigned for the prototype. For the motor of air cooling, appropriate fan should bedesigned to ensure the temperature rise and efficiency of motor are reasonable onoperation.Firstly, take traction PMSM of20kW for an example, the reactance parameter iscalculated by FEM and verified by test. Through the calculations of reactance of differentrotor structures, influence of rotor structure to reluctance torque is summarized, andoptimal rotor structure for traction motor is selected according to the advantages anddisadvantages of different rotor structures.Secondly, after the rotor structure confirmed, studies carried out on PM traction motorof20kW whose rotor structure is V style. Combined FEM with analytic method, theinfluences of magnetizing thickness of PM, PM width, inclined angle between two PM anddistance between bottom of PM and the center to reluctance torque are analyzed, andregularity conclusion provided.Then, on the basis of the above analysis, conclusions applied to the design of190kWPM traction motor, difference of performances before and after optimization is compared,and the variation of average torque and pull-out torque are analyzed on condition ofwhether with component of reluctance torque. Furthermore, fan dimensions are gave outby analytic method for the PM traction motor of190kW. Modal of fan designed is foundedby Solidworks software, simulations on distribution of flow field for cooling air cooled the outer wind path proceeded by Fluent software, and final scheme determined through thecontrast of wind speed on conditions of different blade numbers.
