The Pan-jia-yuan antque market dates back from the "Ghost Market" of the Ming and Qing dynasty, and develops from antique stalls in the early1980s to the famous Pan-jia-yuan Antique Market today. It is the material embodiment of traditional culture, also the product of economic development. Why the Pan-jia-yuan antque market has been possessing such a good development in decades of history? The answer ia special development process.And the seemingly simple market development process is filled with the game between spontaneous behavior and government supervision.However, the evolution of the antique market is part of the evolution of traditional market space, as well as a miniature of the combination of market economy and planned economy. The two forces, complement each other, constituting the source of inexhaustible vitality, and the inner drive for the sustainable development of the market. The histroy of human society is companied by the contradiction between management and the managed object. Adam Smith, Milton Friedman, Liberal fighters who advocate "the invisible hand"(Adam Smith) preserving the order of society constantly emerging. While there are many "rulers" like Le Corbusier who use dominant power to rebuild an ordered efficient and self-denying way of life.The question is, how do spontaneous behavior and regulation find the balance in such contradiction? How can they show respectively in the urban space? The answer for this may provide a way so solve the chaos causes by rapid urbanization.This paper takes the Pan-jia-yuan Antique Market as an example, analyzing the development process and the space form of the market, abstracting the spatial effect of two forces, and based on this, mapping the similar development mechanism of urban space. Ultimately, try to proposing possibility suggestions for making good use of spontaneous behavior, and introducing the "bottom-up" mechanism into the architectural and urban space planning and design.
