| With the energy and environmental issues becoming more prominent? there is no doubt that human beings have to look for development roads for the clean and sustainable energy. As one part of ocean energy, tidal current energy is reliable, clean and renewable, and become the apple of human eyes. Tidal current turbine is the core equipment of the tidal current energy conversion. It contains horizontal and vertical axis. With the development of research on vertical axis method, it becomes more competitive than horizontal one. Assessment of tidal current energy resources can be the primary work when exploited. So it is very important to choose proper method of assessment.This paper firstly introduced the domestic and international situation of horizontal and vertical axis turbines. Then hydrodynamic characteristics of current turbines were established. Based on this model, the power coefficient of tidal current turbine was researched. In this paper, it focuses on MPPT methods and combines advantages of three-point method and HCS, improving a derivation of variable-step. It can improve the speed of HCS. Through simulation at Matlab platform, it verifies the ability to capture maximum power.In this paper, the advances in study on tidal current energy resource assessment methods were reviewed. It compared advantages and disadvantages of the available assessment methods. Farm method has clear operating idea, however, it de lacks identity. Flux method doesn’t need parameters of equipment, but it depends on experience considering SIF factor. Garrett method has unique computing method, within the shortage of reliability. China’s internal method has its concise equation, and it applies to assess internal tidal current energy. Its most defect is that its range of application is very narrow. At last, the outlook of current energy resource search and assessment was discussed. It indicates that assessment of tidal current energy resources needs standard. |
