In recent years, urban storm water problems frequently occur, which cause great harm to society, and huge losses to the national economy and people’s lives and property. With the rapid pace of urban development, as the country’s political, economic and cultural center, city has indeed affect the whole country. One reason for the urban flooding problems is that urbanization has occupied the natural land and changed land containment action, which will trigger waterlogging problems. Another reasons is ineffective design and management of urban drainage systems. Assessment of urban drainage systems is important. Identify the weak points in the system and the city waterlogged areas have great meanings to the city. Quantitative results of simulation could guide the design of city pipeline system construction.With the rapid development of computer science, urban drainage system has been evaluated by computer simulations recent years, and achieved a lot of satisfactory results. However, each software is not a panacea, and it has its own advantages and disadvantages and applicable fields. Within the scope of international, the most useful stormwater model is SWMM model and HEC-HMS model. Based on the previous studies of these two models at home and abroad, this paper compares the advantages and disadvantages of two model,and comes to a conclusion.This paper is mainly discussed the combining simulation ways and data coupling. Main work is summarizing as follows:1. Analyzing the situation of application development of rainwater model abroad, pointing out the important position of urban stormwater in urban stormwater simulation problems. For the two widely used models, HEC-HMS and SWMM, analyzing and comparing the calculation principles and techniques for simulation, clearing advantages and disadvantages of these two softwares and combining them to discuss the feasibility of urban stormwater.2. Using a virtual community of6hectares as an example, and combining HEC-HMS and SWMM to simulate storm drainage system in response to different rainfall. Making a specific analysis on the results to illustrate the combination of the two models.3. Simulating the Guangchangxigou Basin in Jinan by using HEC-HMS and SWMM, and analyzing its drainage system. HEC-HMS simulating the rainfall-runoff simulation part, and SWMM simulating the flood routing part. The combination will get the response of the drainage system to the flood under the different return period. At last, discussing the weak points of the drainage system based on the analysis.
