The detection of low voltage porcelain insulator on transmission line is vital for its running safety and stability. And the hard point to the work of faulty insulator detector is quickly,exactly,and efficiently to find the position of faulty insulators on insulator strings.This paper presents a new device proposal on the design of portable faulty insulator detector based on radio frequency. And the advantages of this device are the convenience when carrying,the simplicity when operating,and the usability in high altitude environment. On the method of detection,a sensitive insulator method is used for the faulty insulator string detection,which can enhance the work efficiency greatly,and simplify the working procedure.This paper starts from the reason of faulty insulators and the principles of detection,analyzes the key points in the device designing in detail. Stressing on the functions and circuit modules of controller,which is part of the whole device. The main functions are,starting the measuring part,data receiving,power management,data display,data storage,USB,and EMC design.
