Chemical attractant had become one of the most important agents in pestmonitoring and controlling because of its better uses and high effect. Monochamusalternatus Hope is the main vector of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in China and Japan.Chemical attractant had been frequently used in monitorring and controlling the insectvector in the past. In this paper, APF-Ⅰ chemical attractant produced by FujianAgriculture and Forestry University were evaluated and applied in the field of Fujian.The main results are as follows.1. The test result showed that comparing to several traditional chemical attractantin China, APF-Ⅰ attractant could catch significantly more M. alternatus adultswhether in Fujian, Chongqing, Sichuan, Hunan and Guangdong. This chemicalattractant exhibited a broadly geographic applicability.2. Based on anatomical evidences for M. alternatus adults, we defined the basicstructure of reproductive system in both male and female M. alternatus adults, andestablished the discriminant standard between internal reproductive system and adultage. According to this standard, we determined that APF-Ⅰ attractant’s targets weremainly the females in feeding stage before mating and oviposition, and the sexualmaturity males.3. Field test showed that the panel trap coated water-based lubricating materialcould capture more M. alternatus adults than the other traps baited with APF-Ⅰattractant. The effective distance of this attractant was more than150m. The numbersequence of adult caught by the attractant was set in mountaintop>forest edge>forest interior. The validity of this attractant was more than30d. However, itsefficiency declined with the time. Based on the above results, the applicationtechnology of APF-Ⅰ attractant was proposed and discussed.4. The monitoring results using APF-Ⅰ attractant in Fujian showed that theemergence peak of M. alternatus is from the end of May to the early July in Lianjang; from the end of May to the early June, the end of June to the beginning of July and themiddle and late of July in Taining suburb; from the end of May to the early June, thelate of June to the beginning of July and the late of July in Fujian Taining Zhukou;from early June to the beginning of July and the late of July to the beginning ofAugust in Sanming. Although the population dynamic of M. alternatus adult indifferent sites showed certain differences, the emergence peak appeared in theduration from May to July. Additionally, M. alternatus adults were still found andalive in November in the field of Fujian Lianjiang.
