To make an accurate estimation of the carbon storage and carbon density in the loessplateau has a significant contribution to understand the global carbon sink-source balance.Querus wutaishanica (syn. Q. liaotungensis) natural forest, located in the loess plateauhinterland in the Ziwuling, was used to investigate the carbon density distribution pattern offorest vegetation with age. The results showed that:(1) In ziwuling, the tree layer biomass of natural Querus wutaishanica in young age, middle age, near-mature, mature and overripe forest were52.85,64.91,71.53,81.71and49.18t·hm-2, respectively. Biomass of shrub layers was8.33,6.78,3.42,2.15and5.95t·hm-2,respectively. Biomass of herb layers was0.49,0.41,0.84,0.35and0.73t·hm-2, respectively.Biomass of litter layers was10.64,8.18,11.13,5.45and1.19t·hm-2, respectively. Therefore, the total Biomass in vegetation of young age, middle age, near-mature, mature and overripeforest were72.30,80.28,86.92,89.66and57.06t·hm-2, respectively. In the young age, middleage, near-mature, mature four age stages, the Space distribution of vegetation layer biomasswere tree>litter> shrub> herb. In overripe forest, the Space distribution of vegetation layerbiomass was tree> shrub> litter> herb.(2)The range of carbon concentration of stem, bark, branch, leaf and roots within theQ.wutaishanica age groups were38.02%~47.01%,37.06%~45.50%,37.21%~46.25%,39.85%~46.36%and35.31%~41.10%, respectively. For the leaf, branch and roots of theshrub layers, the values were41.81%~46.26%、41.41%~49.26%、35.03%~40.54%,respectively. The carbon concentrations of the above and below-ground of herb layers were42.26%~44.46%and24.11%~37.01%; the value of litter layers was28.35%~34.67%.(3)The results showed that the tree layer carbon storage in young age, middle age,near-mature, mature and overripe forest were was34.06,34.69,42.01,47.00and31.06t·hm-2,, respectively. Carbon storage of shrub layers was3.64,2.85,1.45,0.92and2.36t·hm-2,respectively. Carbon density of herb layers was0.19,0.16,0.33,0.13and0.21t·hm-2,respectively. Carbon density of litter layers was3.28、2.15、3.68、1.51and0.41t·hm-2,respectively. Therefore, the total carbon density in vegetation of junior-middle,near-mature, and mature forest was41.17,42.85,47.47,49.56and34.11t·hm-2,respectively. Therefore, in the loess plateau hinterland in Ziwuling, the vegetation carbon density inmature of natural Q. wutaishanica was maximum. In the natural Q. wutaishanica, in youngage, middle age, and overripe forest three age stages, the Space distribution of vegetationlayer carbon density were tree> shrub litter> herb. In near-mature, mature two age stages, the Space distribution of vegetation layer, carbon density was tree> litter> shrub> herb.(4) We do correlation analysis to forest age and stand density the two Forest stand factorsand Gradient, slope direction and elevation the three Ecological factors with the carbondensity of Q. wutaishanica natural forest in ziwuling, the results showed that: The influence ofthese five factors to carbon density in order was: forest age> slope direction> elevation>stand density> Gradient. So it is illustrate forest age is the key factor that affect the carbondensity of Q. wutaishanica natural forest in ziwuling.
