The related data in Liaoning Province Statistical Yearbook and the literaturewere used to estimate the nitrogen budgets of farmland ecological system in LiaoningProvince and riparian zone of Liaohe river. The temporal and spatial variationdiagram on nitrogen balance of agroecosystems in Liaoning Province and riparianzone of Liaohe Rive was drawed by GIS and EXCEL. According to the nitrogen flowtable of Liaohe River riparian zone and the assessment model on the concentration ofnitrogen loss, the nitrogen concentration in the loss of water bodies was predicted, and the correlation was analysed with the actual measured nitrogen concentration inLiaohe River water samples. The results revealed that: the average amount of totalnitrogen input and output in2007-2009(Liaoning Province) was1.40E+09kg· a-1and9.28E+08kg a-1, respectively, resulting in an average total nitrogen load of4.68E+08kg·a-1.56.75%of the total amount of nitrogen input arising from the use of chemicalfertilizers, organic fertilizer nitrogen contributed18.73%of the total nitrogen input. The average amount of nitrogen input, output and load per unit area was358.94kg· hm-2·a-1,240.37kg·hm-2·a-1and118.57kg·hm-2·a-1, respectively. The correlationanalysis equation between the nitrogen concentration in the loss of water bodies andthe actual measured nitrogen concentration in Liaohe River water samples was Y=5.4464X-2.7661, which could be used as empirical formula to predicte the nitrogenconcentration of other basin water.Except for Panjin region, the nitrogen in the other13districts farmlandecosystem had relatively large degree of threat to the environment. Especially inDalian and Yingkou, the nitrogen input is much higher than other regions, indicatingthat the drinking water in Dalian and Yingkou may be excessive concentration ofnitrogen, and the risk index of contamination was higher. To the best of ourknowledge, the study of the nitrogen load of14districts in Liaoning Provincefarmland ecosystem can predict the potential threat of the different areas of farmlandnitrogen load to the Liaohe basin water environment as well as groundwater. What’s more, it is significant to manage and prevent the farmland non-point source pollution.
